Prevention/Solution
Oceans are vast, yes, but there is not an endless supply of it. If we do not all help and solve this issue we all will pay a very big price. Helping to prevent water pollution is something that everyone must contribute to, as everyone is at fault. We all need to take some big steps, in order to help prevent water pollution and help preserve the oceans for future generations. Here are some ways that you can help contribute:
There are many solutions to water pollution. Here are some solutions to water pollution:
Solution # 1: Governments Should Enforce Laws
Governments should start enforcing laws that are particular to the prevention of water pollution. For example governments should enforce a law that states that industries should not be allowed to dispose of their waste in the oceans
Solution #2: Drive Less
People should be driving less in order to help prevent oil spills. Oil spills are disastrous events that are frequently occurring. Did you know that every time a car drives on the Don Valley Highway, their cars leak little amounts of oil into the Don River? And imagine how many cars drive on the Don Valley Highway. If people drive less, then more marine lives will be protected and as well as the safety of our oceans.
- Don't throw away your garbage anywhere. Look for an appropriate bin to put it in (i.e. garbage can and recycling bin).
- Use water appropriately and wisely. Do not leave your tap on when it is not being used, and take shorter showers. By doing this we call all significantly reduce the amount of dirty water that needs to be treated and decrease the amounts of water shortages.
- Try your best not to dump chemicals down the drain at home. Find better ways to get rid of chemical waste. For example in most cities there are facilities where you can safely dispose of your chemical waste.
- Use environmentally-friendly household products
- Do not use too much fertilizer or pesticides in your soil
- Try not using your vehicles as much to help prevent oil spills
- Industries should find environmentally-friendly ways to dispose of their waste
- Help raise awareness of water pollution
- Try to avoid using plastic
